The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Yesterday we saw the French-language movie, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." It's a fascinating movie -- we give it two thumbs up! The Diving Bell tells the story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, who was the editor of Elle magazine until he suffered a stroke-like incident that brought about "locked-in syndrome." Bauby was paralyzed from head to toe, yet his sight, vision, and mental function were unaffected. Bauby managed to write his memoirs, which share the movie's title, using only his left eyelid. Pretty incredible, right? The movie is extremely creative and visually stunning -- much of it is shot from Bauby's "locked-in" perspective. Highly recommended.

In non-cinematic news, Barack Obama won South Carolina by a landslide! Three cheers for him. Here's to hoping that he can pull off a similar feat come Super Tuesday.

But was it depressing?
